Day 4: Kuala Lumpur
Quite a relaxed day today:
- got 9 hours of sleep
- started the morning with my first self-brewed coffee of this trip (on the deep 87)
- ran a few errands
- dinner and durian with my long time friend, and two of his old friends
- took photos outside the twin towers
Kuala Lumpur is an old city (or at least I am staying in an old part of town), with the grunginess of Hong Kong, and some of the modern architecture echoing of Singapore. A very car focussed city, and people seem to have a far higher quality of life than Indonesia (probably 1/3 of the Singaporean way of life; if Indonesia was ~5-10%).
The few kms I did were around town, going to dinner and then durian - although the main thing of note is that my bike (or rather the aliexpress accessories I bought) started falling apart today! A screw came loose and fell from one of my spotlights, and likewise for my GPS mount. I will try to replace these in Thailand, where I have a service and tyre change planned.
A clip of me riding the evening traffic to dinner (uneventful; just for vibes)
Highlight of the day was definitely durian - it is the start of durian season and between 4 of us (with me definitely being the greedier one), we had 2x Black Thorns and 1x Musan King. Truly a luxury.

Then to finish the day off, we parked two blocks from the Twin Towers and enlisted the help of the local photographer/hustlers for a few photos.
Even had a few passers-by pose for photos.

Tomorrow: Penang
Stats
- 2 unique interactions
- 20g coffee consumed
Some definitions for the stats that I am loosely following:
For unique interactions, I count this as:
- People I haven’t met previously
- At least somewhat memorable (e.g. service interactions do not count)
- Multiple people in a single interaction counts as one interaction (e.g. meeting a group of new people counts as one)
For instances where i buy coffee from a store, I count a pourover as 15g coffee, and a double espresso as 18g coffee. The coffee I brew myself I add exactly.
